Four days of intensive training at the TIG office for Creating Local Connections has prepared me really well for my job. I am so impressed by the office and how the vision imagined by two young people have surpassed everyone's most incredible expectations. I have seen and experienced the power of TakingITGlobal and am inspired and motivated. Our collaboration is going to result in something great this year and some of my personal goals will help me contribute everything I can.
I am impressed by the work done around AIDS and see the HIV/AIDS topic being one of our first workshops in Thunder Bay. Also, it will be important to give an website orientation to YouthScape and work with the Boys and Girls club to do some internet training. Once the group is gelled in Thunder Bay, we can reach more people. I like the idea of a lunchtime networking session to do a brief workshop about the TIG website and organization.
There is a need for TIG to be present at the Go Mental conference in early November and the Strength-Based conference in late November. In October, I am going to look into whether I can get to any of the mental health events around Mental Illness awareness week.
As TIG Thunder Bay grows, it will enlighten people about young people and their issues and pursuits. I want to find out what the youth demographic looks like, wants, and needs.
